Hello everyone! ! ! This is Shun from Life Force Chiropractic.
This time, I would like to talk about the game I went to watch last weekend between the Ryukyu Golden Kings and Shinshu Brave Warriors.
This was my first game I attended this season, and the game was tense from the beginning, with Shinshu leading by 3 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, with cheers and whistles ringing after every play, and with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Shinshu led by 12 points, 67-79. Kishimoto’s three 3-pointers and hard defenders quickly brought the lead to three points, and with less than a minute left, Matsuwaki caught up with a tie-breaking three, and Wicklow’s basket count led to the team winning the game at the end. With Kishimoto’s offensive push, the Kings won the game 83-79, making it their fourth consecutive win. More than 8,000 people had attended this match, and many Shinshu Warriors fans were in attendance as well making it difficult to predict who would win, the final stage had people both teams fans cheering their teams on as hard as they could.
After this hard fought game the Kings had a jersey retirement ceremony for current Assistant Coach of the Kings Anthony McHenry. He was a mainstay for the Kings from 2008 to 2017 and he helped bring many memorable moments to Ryukyu Kings fans. During the ceremony many of his highlights along with words of his former teammates were played throughout the stadium. It was clear through the ceremony and the reaction of the crowd that McHenry was and still is loved by many Ryukyu Kings fans for his contributions on and off the court.
I have been a Kings fan since 2012 and I still fondly remember McHenry san playing for the team, when I was still a student I would mention the Ryukyu Kings and all my friends of would mention McHenry, it was obvious the impact that he has had on many fans of basketball here in Okinawa.
Head Coach of the Kings Oketani also stated that he would one day like to see the possibility of McHenry becoming the head coach of the Kings, and that is an idea that I would also love to see happen.
